The Secret History of Wonder Woman
By Jill Lepore
Kindle/iBooks/Kobo
Three Stars
Wonder Woman is the culmination of creator William Marston’s life. She reflects his involvement in the suffragette and feminist movements, the self-described Amazons he lived with, and his invention of the lie detector test which became her lasso of truth. Filled with beautiful, vintage illustrations, this obsessively detailed account charts all his influences in creating comic’s most enduring super heroine.

Deranged animal attacks and incessant gun fire almost spoil this go-anywhere, do-anything adventure where the mystical lands of India are simulated so extensively you need a collection of ATVs, hang gliders, and helicopters just to get around. Given the freedom to play missions in any style, it’s impressive how well it adapts to your choices, including the moral paths you take in the hard-to-follow political story. There’s so much in play it can easily become confusing and glitchy, with freedom turning into an annoying chaos unless you adapt as well.
