Severely anxious about having knee surgery, Josefa Ramírez has become the first person to enter virtual reality during the operation as a way of coping.
By sending her into a virtual night time world using the Oculus Rift VR Helmet, doctors were able to distract her with a beautiful night sky filled with shooting stars, confetti fireworks, and the relaxing music of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and Debussy’s Clair de lune.
As a result, her blood pressure and heart rate was kept low and so only local anesthetic was needed.
It’s Back-To-School so I thought I’d share a recipe for hi-tech play dough.
Created by AnneMarie Thomas, an engineering professor in U os St. Thomas, the Squishy Circuits recipe creates two types of play dough, a “salty” mix that conducts electricity and a “sugary” mix that insulates.
Combined with wires, LED bulbs, motors and batteries, and even the youngest kids with the tiniest hands can stick them together to create working electronics.
This means you can sculpt animals with light-up eyes and wagging tails.
