New York-based entrepreneur Christina Mercado has raised $1 million to launch Ringly, a company promising connected and stylish jewelry.
Some women tend to store their phones deep within their purses and so miss important calls when their phones vibrate or chime.
Mercado’s first product is a ring that will vibrate and illuminate whenever your phone its trying to reach you with something important.
An app lets you choose what that may be – calls from a spouse or family, baby photos posted to Instagram, like on an important Facebook post, anything you like. The rings have chargeable batteries that last for 2-3 days.
So far, reaction has been mixed, but after giving it thought I think the idea of filtering out your most intimate/important communications coming to your phone and turning them into something you can feel on your person is an interesting idea.
MIT researcher Jie Qi is just one of many cool educators featured this year in Google’s free summer camp for kids.
From July 7th through to August 15th, kids 13 years and older with a Google+ account can join an online Maker Camp and be guided by instructors through projects that include making soda bottle rockets and iridescent sneakers.
The program will also include virtual field trips to Jim Henson’s Creature workshop and Legoland Park.
Kids without home computers/internet access can visit participating real world camps at libraries/museums (there’s one in Mississauga).
