The Remarkable Women Who’ve Won Sci-Tech Oscars

To complement the issue of diversity that has dominated the conversation around this year’s Oscars, we look at the Academy’s Scientific-Technical Awards to profile the embarrassingly short list of women who have won during the ceremony’s 18 year history and how attitudes and awareness of the issues is starting to change.

This week also sees the launch of the world’s first Virtual Reality Cinema in Amsterdam where, to our surprise, Dutch fans will pay the equivalent of $18.50 to visit Toronto virtually to be on stage with U2.

We also discuss a wild lighting system developed by Sandra Rey and Maëlle Chassard. Glowee uses bioluminescence to give light to store signs and street lamps in the place of electricity. Based in France, they’ve just unveiled their first commercial product and amongst their first clients is ice cream makers Ben & Jerry’s.
