Toronto’s Maker Spaces & Creating Jogging Music With Imogen Heap

This week Kris Abel introduces What She Said’s Christine Bentley, Sharon Caddy, and Kate Wheeler to…

Jonathan Moneta and Jacquelyn van Kampen are from a team of instructors and designers that run The Make Lab, an innovative Maker studio in Toronto with a large number of 3D printers, a laser cutter, and an electronics workshop. Anyone, regardless of experience, can book time for a $35 training session or just $15/hour printing if you already know what you want.

Due to the size of their space and the number of machines, the Make Lab has grown to become a social area popular for dating couples and even party events including showers, bar-mitzvahs, and corporate events.

Marissa Maislin and Michelle Organ have opened their own woodworking and metal shop in Toronto specializing in ceramics, jewelry, and woodworking.

Again, no experience necessary, they show visitors how to “Make Learn and Sell” the things they create using tools and machinery they supply. You can come in for a day pass or sign up for a membership. They also hold a number of workshops that will connect you with others looking to be creative. Check out my full interview with them here.

Using the sounds of your footsteps, your breath, and other sounds around you while you job, an upcoming app from musician Imogen Heap will create an exercise soundtrack that reacts to your own movement and pace.

She has used the app herself to create a song for her next album, Run-Time.

The song was released this week with the album and app due out in a few weeks. We can play a preview.
