By Lauren Bacall
Kindle/iBooks/Kobo
Four Stars
It’s hard to imagine the late Lauren Bacall struggling with unemployment, but it’s what drove her to write this final memoir. She shares the difficulties of being an outspoken loner, of being guided by Bogart’s wisdom, and being lifted by carefully chosen friends. Unfortunately the book’s audio doesn’t work, so while you get her words, her sultry voice is missing.

Rated: Mature 17+
3 Stars
It makes sense to revisit this blood-soaked work of terrifying science fiction, this fascinating tale of genetic and social manipulation, on a mobile screen. It’s easier to be carried aloft by its grand score, chilling screams, and infectious dialogue, but the atmospheric audio ends up covering for compromised graphics and touch controls. If you can’t play the original on a console or a PC, then play this version on Easy difficulty and pay attention to the Big Daddies and Little Sisters with your ears for this pocket nightmare to haunt you.
